DESCRIPTION:JANUARY 15, 2023\nMALANKA featuring:\nMarengo Pie!\n\nWe’re going to start the year 2023 by celebrating Malanka with our first concert!\n\nJoin us for Malanka!\n\n\nEnjoy the music of Marango Pie in celebration of Ukrainian New Year – MALANKA!\n\nMalanka (Ukrainian New Year’s Eve) is traditionally celebrated in the middle of January.  It is rich in ancient ritual, folklore and magic. The ancestors of Ukrainians believed that on New Year’s Eve, good and evil spirits descended on the earth. In order to ward off the evil forces and ensure a bountiful new year, the night was spent in dancing, partaking of a lavish and ritualistic meal, fortune telling, courting, casting of spells and singing carols of well wishes called Shchedrivky.\n\nWe may not believe in the old myths, or carry on ancient traditions, but what better way to bring in a new year than to celebrate with exceptional entertainment and in the company of close friends.\nMarango Pie is a multi-piece band playing traditional Ukrainian roots music with modern swing sensibilities. Marango Pie puts a modern twist on traditional Ukrainian music.\n\nMarango is a Ukrainian colloquialism for gypsy troubadour. And the pieces of the Pie are an eclectic ensemble joined together by the love of high energy tunes exemplified by traditional Ukrainian Music.
