SUMMARY:Battle River Big Band – Playing classics from the 30’s to the 80’s
DESCRIPTION:Big band is a type of musical ensemble that usually consists of ten or more musicians with four sections: saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and a rhythm section. “Big Band” music originated during the early 1910s and dominated in the early 1940s when swing was most popular.\nIf you like toe-tapping jazz tunes from the early 30’s and on, delivered in a brassy blast, you’ll get what you came for with this energetic group. This 18-piece band shows up with the old favourite standards, and peppers some contemporary favourites  in every gig. Started in 2015, Battle River Big Band is primarily comprised of band /music teachers and seasoned musicians, living in the communities in and around Camrose and Wetaskiwin. As the Battle River runs near these centres, the name suits this band to a tee. The band has performed in Wetaskiwin at the Manluk Theatre, First United Church, Mission Church and in Camrose at the Bailey Theatre, downtown Jaywalkers’ Jamboree and at the Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Arts Centre.\n
